Educational Assistance Committee
The Educational Assistance committee provides Graduate Library School scholarships, Continuing Education Grants, and NELA Conference Grants.
2010 Scholarships: The Educational Assistance Committee is pleased to
announce this year's Graduate study scholarship winners:
Full-time students receiving $2000 scholarships:
- Susanna Hall (Syracuse Univ., MA resident) Ms. Hall, currently a high school literacy and humanities teacher, wants to become a middle or high school librarian, and “an academic and literacy resource to teachers and students in all content areas of a school community.”
- Nicole Fonsh (Simmons, MA resident) Ms. Fonsh works in a research library while volunteering as a cataloger at a state library. Her goal is to be a “top-rate general or business reference librarian at a public library.”
Part-time students receiving $1000 scholarships:
- Carol Anne Geary (Southern Conn., MA resident) Ms. Geary will continue her work in young adult services and in professional organizations, and hopes to “bring some experience of [her] own to mentor and reach out to new librarians in the field.”
- Alexandra W. Nyary (Simmons, MA resident) Ms. Nyary is very interested in diversity and outreach, and plans to work in a public library to “help the illiterate patrons, the non-English speaking, the disabled, the deaf, and anyone else who feels their public library is inaccessible for whatever reason.”
We congratulate the winners, and wish them the best as they complete their degrees.
