NELLS, New England Library Leadership July 2008

NELA is looking for current and future leaders to apply for and attend the New England Library Leadership Symposium July 28-August 1, 2008. NELLS is an intensive 4-day course designed for up and coming library leaders. The purpose of this symposium is to foster the mentoring and development of tomorrow's leaders who are interested in working with library associations, both state and regional. NELLS has been created through a cooperative effort of the New England Library Association and all six New England state library associations.

NELA Member Finalist for a Connecticut Book Award

Fred R. Shapiro, Associate Librarian for Collections and Access and Lecturer in Legal Research, Yale Law School, was named a Finalist in the Nonfiction category for the 2007 Connecticut Book Award, given by the Connecticut Center for the Book, for his book The Yale Book of Quotations (Yale University Press). Congratulations Fred from your friends in NELA.

NELA BY THE NUMBERS

For those of you who love numbers, formulas and statistics; here are some NELA numbers. We have members in all 6 New England States. At the Annual Conference attendees came from all six states 6.9% Maine, 7% Rhode Island, 10% Connecticut, 21.1% Vermont, 22.7% New Hampshire, 32.2% Massachusetts. We work in all types of libraries 1% Special, 1.4% School, 3.1% Trustee/Student/Retired, 5.3% State, Coop system, etc, 18% Academic, 71.7% Public. Our 6 sections and 10 committees are hard at work along with the Conference Committee preparing for the Annual Conference, other stand-alone conferences, and all the other details large and small which have kept us an active and relevant organization for 40 years strong.
