NELA News – February 2008February is a busy news month for NELA. DUES – In January all members should have received a paper mailing with your annual membership renewal. Thank you to everyone who has sent theirs in already. If you haven't, you have three choices: 1) find the mailing in your "pile", 2) register electronically at https://nelibrary.ejoinme.org/MyPages/nelamembership/tabid/5821/Default.aspx or 3) print out a new form at http://www.nelib.org/membership/membershipform-2008.pdf and mail it in. Dues are for the calendar year and will give you discounts at the conference and access to the NELA listservs. Of course, getting to know colleagues all over New England is the best reason to maintain your membership. BALLOTS – With your membership mailing you also received a ballot for some changes to our by-laws. The changes will affect the make-up of the Executive board, the number of years our Presidents serve in various positions, and the ability of the organization to offer electronic balloting in the future. These are important issues so we need your vote. The deadline for voting on the by-law changes is February 21. Please send in your ballot if you haven't already done so. CALENDAR – There are three spring conferences on the calendar. They are coming up soon and registrations are open for two of them.
CONTINUING EDUCATION – The deadline for submitting applications to NELLS for a wonderful continuing education opportunity this summer has been extended to March 14, 2008. All the information you need to apply is at http://nelib.org/nells. GREENAWAY AWARD – NELA has a very special award which is presented at the annual conference. It is the Emerson Greenaway Distinguished Service Award for Librarianship. The committee is now accepting recommendations for this award. You can find a description of the award, criteria, and the nomination process at http://nelib.org/greenaway. I hope everyone is able to take advantage of at least one of our many offerings this spring. Jan Drake |
